Who Should Attend?
School and after school administrators, district administrators, policymakers and practitioners who seek real world contexts for applied learning as a strategy to prepare career and college ready students.

Why Attend?
High achieving nations increasingly emphasize that students should be able to demonstrate learning through application in authentic contexts. This is the core of MicroSociety learning environments.

“MicroSociety is an example of applying real learning theory – that we understand to work in the real world – to kid’s lives. It’s authentic. It’s real…That’s what we want.”

  Linda Darling Hammond
Charles E. Ducommun Professor of Education
Stanford University

Through large and small group workshops, you will learn the latest cutting edge best practices including:

  • Providing real world opportunities for students to innovate, problem solve and work cooperatively
  • Accelerating college and career readiness by connecting the world of work to learning
  • Engaging after school and extended day strategies that align with school curriculum
  • Embedding 21st century skills into daily teaching and learning practices
  • Creating a school climate where teachers teach less and students learn more
  • Fashioning essential questions that encourage students to apply what they’ve learned to new problems and new situations
  • Assessing demonstrations of learning applied in authentic contexts
  • Emphasizing interdisciplinary student work that requires research, analysis, application, production and self assessment
  • Powerful structures for working together as professionals in a 21st Century learning community
